On Training Wheels
Hey all. I'm hopefully going to start getting this old tandem functioning mechanically then eventually try to restore it somewhat. I am trying to find out what it actually is, but that shouldn't be particularly critical to getting it "running" again. It is covered by what appears to be house paint on the frame (very thick, chipping, uneven) with no visible numbers/names/badges/etc. I agree with a response over on ratrod bikes that the wheels are not original, and look to be smaller than what the original would have been. There are some features that make me think a ~1900 crescent tandem, but then other particular details that don't match any pictures that I've seen.

Any ideas or comments, I'm all ears. I'll try to put some pictures up of specific features, but this is what I had on my phone.

Okay, took some more pictures, so so on quality. I do see the word "Monark" on the rear hub, but if speculation is correct, the wheels aren't original to the bike. The design at the upper end of the front fork seems pretty unusual. Looking closer at the chain in my hand, I believe it is a skiptooth (great). Just need to refurbish it, and it is not completely frozen (just mostly). Took an off-angle downward pic to show the double bar "chassis?" at the bottom.

The primary thing it is missing is the pedal arm for the passenger side. No idea where it went. Bike things were in a pile in the basement when I found it, but that definitely wasn't there.
