Help with an old Elgin!

-

MrMonark13

Wore out three sets of tires already!
Here is a bike I just got. It’s an Elgin Curved frame. I don’t know anything about these, but I would like to refurbish/restore it for my Mom. Any information would help. Really want to know what year it is and how it could have been originally equipped.
Thanks!

Looks like a Murray-built Sears Elgin.
Serial number might have a stamping like SD for 1939–D (Sears).

Sometime about 1940–E, bikes might have been stamped "SE" as well as "MOD-502" (for Sears' code for their manufacturer, made part of the Model number).

Not sure if the Murray, Westfield (and Monark) tanks for Sears Elgin Ladies' bikes were interchangeable?
Rounded in front; never seen a ribbed girls tank before?

Where can I find the serial number on one of these?

Says SD, so it’s a 1939! Anyone have some pictures on what it’s supposed to look like?
