Help with Higgins Kickstand

I have an old Elgin with a retrofitted kickstand (should have a drop stand but....) and it has what appears to be a piece of thick rubber heater hose on the tip. Just enough to help the bike sit up and the rubber protects the steel from the dirt or concrete and it protects my shoes from the metal. ??????

I have the exact same problem and I fairly certain its the original stand as the bracket fits the tubes perfectly. It's seems far too short and/or travels too far forward.

had the same problem heated the curved part that touches the groundand straightened it a bit gained about an half inch and that was enough
