Look Ma, No Hands!
This previous owner pretty much made me take this one when I bought another one. It’s missing the head badge and I can only find one code on the bottom bracket, 35LH. It looks like the head badge may have had a convex curve to the side but it’s hard to read any other shape. Any ideas for me?

I’d also like to find correct fenders and chain guard if anyone has them they want to sell.

Thanks,
Mike

Nice bike, maybe 1953.
The serial numbers might be on the seat tube mast, about 6” below the seat. Might start with a letter (K?) followed by six digits.

Could have worn a Hawthorne shield-type head badge?

Similar to your 1941 Snyder built Hawthorne but 12-years later post-war, with different rear fork ends, different seats post & clamp, and perhaps other minor differences.

it's Snyder built and from the 50's. Look for evidence of two small holes on the top of the top bar a little(about 4 1/2" to 6" for the two holes) back from the steering tube---they would be mounting holes for turns signal switch that would I.D. the frame as a Hawthorne Deluxe. As stated above, there will be a serial# on the seat tube. Indeed looks like 35EH --so 1953.

Right on the money! Thank you! K449091. Unfortunately I’m not seeing evidence of holes on the top tube. I’ll look closer at the shadow of the head badge and the Hawthorne shield.

No idea what badge might have left the shadow, and the bike has been worked on, so who knows what might be original or not.

(For example, the painted rims do not reflect a deluxe model).

Looks like no original paint is left, perhaps check inside of the bottom bracket crank hanger and head tube for any paint remnants; I believe that black may have been popular in the 1950’s?

Tanks become available for these bikes from time to time.

I used stripper on the BB to see the serial number and thre was no other color besides the blue. No chance it’s original?

The other bike I bought with this is a western flyer of unknown year. Probably early 60s. It has fairly crappy components but seems older than I would expect for a reproduction. I’m wondering if they swapped wheels and the white painted rims belong on the flyer.
