HEMI426

Cruisin' on my Bluebird
I picked up this horn and it makes a little noise but it should be alot louder. My question is are the set nut and screws on the sides what needs adjusted to get more noise out of it ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone has ever had these apart. What's it take to get more noise? Thanks

It’s the nut and screw in your first pic. There is a serrated wheel that rotates and rubs against that screw and diaphragm when you push the plunger down. Adjusting that screw will set that amount of “rub” from the serrated wheel.

So, A7 is the adjustment.

What about the the return recoil of the plunger?
I have a couple that I have to pull the plunger back up. But the clack sound is
Do I need to disassemble and replace the A-14 spring?

This is the first bicycle one of these I've owned, I've had many bigger ones for cars and buggies. I've never had one apart but by looking at that scamatic view those side nuts and screws must adjust something else. When I bought that one I also got this one that I'm putting on my Excelsior.

Those side screws and jamb nuts act as an internal set of support bearings for the axel of the toothed, spinning flywheel. Your A-7 diaphram-screw will need to be made of heatreated steel ... and have a slightly-domed, bullet-shaped tip ... that can receive consecutive lift and drop by each tooth of the rotating flywheel. Sometimes the gasket material disintegrates (or otherwise disappears); I believe that the softer material of the gasket allows for slight movement, which helps make the sound.

I have tried thin flat plastic washers instead of a missing gasket, not sure if that impacts the screw lengths; (the longer screws are used with the bottom holes with the extra length for the mounting bracket).

Noticed some pan-head screws along with the round head screws; might replace them with brass screws, as brass always makes for a good horn, and not just any brass, try to get “Tijuana Brass”.
