Can anyone tell me if it's a Schwinn and what year made ? and maybe model . what would head badge and chain guard look like ? worth the 40 bucks? Would be very much appreciated!

Hi,
Don't let the Schwinn grips lead you astray.;) This is a CWC (Cleveland Welding Company) bike and based on the chain ring may have been a Hawthorne sold by Montgomery Wards. These frames were also badged as Western Flyers and sold by Western Auto Stores, Hiawatha for Gambels Dept Stores and others. I'd say you did very well for $40.

Clean it up, lube and new tires/tubes and ride!

Here's the same frame as a Wards Hawthorne, https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/54-cwc-hawthorne.109445/. Here's another similar Hawthorne with that frame and chainring, https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/hawthorne-cwc-1952.144704/.

Best of luck with your nice rider!
