Finally riding a big boys bike
Hello, I purchased this bicycle today from an estate sale and don’t know too much about it I think maybe it’s a hornet but I’m not really sure. I bought it hanging up in a garage so I didn’t get a good look at it before agreeing to buy it because there were other people interested in it and I didn’t want to miss out on it I thought it was good paint but unfortunately it’s been repainted with a brush so I hope I didn’t pay too much for it. Any information like which parts are right or wrong or missing and the model and year would be great and if anyone has some idea of it’s value I’d be interested to know thank you

I would agree that it may be a Hornet with a deluxe chainguard. Get yourself a top load torpedo light and you are good to go! I dont see any incorrect parts other than maybe the grips.

Well that’s good news thank you

Base on the serial number, your bike is a 1951 Fully Equipped Standard Boys Bicycle Model D12. It would have been fitted with solid a colored Rocket Ray headlight. The D12 did not become the Hornet until 1952. As noted above and based on the pictures, it looks original except for the grips. Really nice!
That’s great, thank you I’ll be on the lookout for one of those lights hopefully I can find one in similar condition to the bike I’m not talented enough to do a repaint with the different designs it has so I will probably keep it like it is also the brush paint it has now kind of gives it character

The light would have been white. Do a little research on the saddle. Somebody here will recognize it. Again, nice bike!

Contrary to what was said above, the Hornet model was made in 1951. It was model # D19, not D12 which was a bare bones model. That is a 1951 Hornet with the Rocket Ray light and rear carrier missing.

Thank you I’m looking forward to finding the parts and making it complete again
