You were among those already involved in the hobby, it is not a growing hobby. As we age out and pass on there is not enough interest for the number of collectors to grow. The younger generations are not getting involved. Yes there are exceptions and there are some young people here on the cabe but this is an exception. How many 20 year old’s were at the swap loading up in parts and bikes? My comment was in response to a members obnoxious comment on the lack of evolution in regards to a very specific and rare bicycle. The belief that only a properly restored 100% correct bicycle is the only acceptable outcome is the type of thinking that drives people away. The arrogance of some members is a complete turn off to many. Knocking down someone who has built a bike to their liking because it lacks some incredible overpriced and frankly useless parts is pathetic. You can’t ride a bike frame on a work stand. I reiterate my comment , this is a dying hobby like it or not.

Is the frame dented or cracked anywhere? If not, offer him $900. I don't see anyone coughing up $1500 for it. There are four very hard to find parts that are missing on that bike, those are the seat ($200-$400), chain guard ($75-$200), rear rack ($80-$200) and fender light ($350-$500). The spring fork isn't that hard to find. These bikes have been all over the place in value. It is rare to find one complete at a reasonable price :) Bicyclebones tends to come up with Hextube parts from time to time. He is a CABE member and sells parts on Ebay. Cool guy!

Young people today are all about the internet and social media. Most young people are into posting all over social media they post pictures of everything they are into, the burrito they just ate their newest outfit they bought. This is probably the best vintage bike site on the planet and how many 20 somethings have joined? If the younger generations are getting into vintage bike collecting they sure are keeping it quite. Again I pose the question "how many 20 year old's were at Monroe and MLC buying up vintage bicycles? I'm getting no responses because they were not there and my comment about this being a dying hobby is 100% correct. There is no stench of death, it is a slow trickle down ,down , down. There will always be someone collecting vintage bikes but it is not a growing hobby. This is not an opinion it is the facts.
