Wore out three sets of tires already!
If you know how a '39 Schwinn crank is marked, please reply. I found one I pulled out of a '39-40 years ago, it's dog leg, It's the same cross crank shape as an AS, but marked 502, and some kind of embossed letter in a circle or square. Could post pics. Thank you

502 is the part number. You just haven't found the date yet. Maybe flip it over? IIRC digits might be reversed? 93?

According to the 1940 catalog, 502 is for ladies and New World and is probably 6-1/2" length. Men's ballooner is 501, and 7" long.

Here's my 39 (40?) Excelsior's crank. No part number (but it is a 7" dogleg crank, so 501). The flat boss on the opposite side is blank, but on my 41 Packard (another 501 crank that is not marked 501), it says AS&CO there.

Thank you very much! Yes came from girls bike, hadn't measured yet, but now I know. I'll look for numbers under any crud. Good to know 501 is target.
