Is there a way to tell the year of this bicycle? The serial number stamped on it is H35845 - AC. It says on the front, Hawthorne Montgomery Ward and also says Hawthorne on the chain guard. It appears to have all original parts, but I can't be 100% sure on that. Any information or insight on this bicycle would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome! That's an ACw. E preceding the number for an ACw (small "w" inside "C") would be on the downside of 1950. Info from Cleveland Welding chart by Phil Marshall. Looks pretty complete and original to me, except for the headlight. If you intend on keeping this very nice bike, it should clean up beautifully if done properly.

Thanks for you're reply! Would it be more valuable to keep it original, as is? We own a body shop and could restore with new paint. Just don't want to do that if it decreases the value.

That would absolutely decrease the value in a big way. In my humble opinion keep this bike as is. From what I can tell, it's in great original condition! I'm sure that you're curious, but I don't feel comfortable putting a value on this bike. I will say that I did sell one in lesser condition, and missing a few parts for $175 a couple of years ago.

That was gonna be my next question, Lol. Didn't know if it was worth $200 or $1200. Hard to know these things if you aren't a specialist!
