On Training Wheels
Very new to the vintage bike scene, so don't beat me up if this seems obvious. I'm not sure how much of the is original, or may have been modified later, so I had a hard time searching the forum and pics for a match. I picked up this 26" balloon tire bike last weekend from a guy in Western MA that deals in vintage bikes of this sort. He was unsure what it was himself. There was no head badge, or any manufacturer marking anywhere that I could find. It has a truss fork, Musselman rear coaster brake hub, skip tooth sprocket and symmetrical airfoil shaped pedals with a red reflector on the terminal ends. The only markings I note on the frame are stamped on the bottom bracket shell. There is an "H5" located near the chainstays and "F6 39 92" (not sure if those were intended spaces in the S/N or just a function of inconsistent stamping) directly underneath. The dropouts have chain tensioners and there are wings or ears on the bottom that are bent outward. The bends appear symmetrical to each other, so I assume this was how it came from the factory, rather than from damage to them.
I'm leaning towards this being a CWC Roadmaster, but I'm just not sure. If it is CWC, the S/N should put manufacture date at 1946, I believe. Please let me know if there are any other areas that might have identifying marks or other photos might help with the ID. I appreciate any assistance you all can give me.
Thanks!
Joe
