Great find, what is that knob for on the down tube by the neck. I don’t think that it would be that difficult to make a patina’d tank for that bike. That would be one of the easiest conversations & you end up w/ two bikes for the price of one.

Talk about minimalist, there isn't much to that bike.
It looks like its missing some support.

==========================================

These machines had frames made of a special recipe
steel -- the recipe has a higher percentage of carbon
and other additives that respond very well to ''heat-
treatment'' (hardening and tempering).

The end result is the frame could flex .. and then return
to it's original shape because heat-treatment allowed and
encouraged that.

And now the frame has a virtue some call ''memory''.

Other peeps call it a ''spring''.

Had the opportunity to ride the boy's version belonging to my
old friend, the late Harry Ward -- at the turn of the last century.
Every time I visited him in Dayton, he let me take it down the
boulevard.

After he orchestrated a restoration to this machine (by Canadian
Don and Don's lovely bride, Edna) ... i cried to own the machine.

Harry delivered it to me soon after the deal went down.

Kept it more than a few years ... then @sm2501 had to have it.

Scott got fotos and notations from Harry, AND the original
owner of this relic.

Canadian Don and Edna followed the information like relic
hunters going after the Holy Grail. Canadian Don was all
about the preparation and placing paint. Edna was a Master Striper.

..... patric

The tank was NOS in beautiful original paint.

And that ''Knob'' ? … Finger actuator for the internal steering dampener.
(Just like well-appointed motorcycles of the day).

That's very cool. Thanks for the info. Now I need to find one for a test ride.

It rides beautifully! Very comfortable. The tires still hold air so we just filled it up and it was ready to ride.
