INSTALLING 28" TIRES ON WOOD CLAD RIMS

In need of info on how to install tires/tubes on 28" wood clad rims. Never done this type of wheel & I don't understand how the tire will stay mounted as I see no lip to hold the bead. So what's the deal? I have a set of 28" x 1 1/2 tires & tubes. any and all help greatly appreciated

They require single tube tires which would be glued on. Your best option for keeping a vintage look are Robert Deans... There are also some single tube mountain bike tires that will work

I use $45 700 x 33 sew up type cyclocross tires. Sometimes you can find them used. They don’t fit that well as they are a little narrow. Dirt gets in the gap between the tire and wood rim, mixes with the contact glue and makes a black line. They fit the 28 inch wood rims. Here is one of my bikes that originally had single tube tires on these rims. You can see the dirt line.

A buddy painted my wheels on this project and they have fooled some very surprised bikaholics. Might be an option.....?
