Thought about it today and I'm going to see how far I can get tomorrow. I have a rusted in half tank and other junk parts to build a rideable garden bike. Only using parts out of the scrap pile.
I'm seeing the start of a halfway decent build using at least two of those bikes. Looks like the girl's matching fenders (big plus) would fit the boys straightbar frame. Girl's fork could work if cut down (as I'm sure you already know). Great opportunity to use spare parts that have just been laying around in boxes. I've done some mixing and matching with different colored patina parts of the same vintage with surprisingly cohesive results. Good riders too. Just my take on it though.
I just finished for the day, I got to a rideable bike with 1 flat tire. I want to put some nice wheels and tires on it but they aren't in the scrap pile. I did use 1 thing that wasn't in the pile, the guard I found that matches the tank so I used it. Boris was right I had to cut down that fork. Maybe I'll put some red and cream paint on it or not. It depends if I clean it up or not. Now it needs a big basket in front for flowers and twin baskets in back. It took about 7 hrs. I ruined a set of bars trying to get the stem out, the scrap is outside where mother nature lives.
Thanks everyone for the kind words, and yes Chris that tape is a thick alum. exhaust or muffler tape, it also worked great on the holes in my mower deck. All those parts sat outside for a couple years, if I clean it up now I might feel guilty leaving it outside with dirt and flowers in it. But I have 0 invested only some time. If I clean it up I'll post pics tomorrow. That tank and bottom straight bar is what happens when you leave batteries in for decades.
Well I cleaned it up and got out the paint and brushes, I consider it a 30 footer. 30 feet away it looks OK, up close not so much but it's just gonna sit in the yard under a bunch of bird feeders. Found some baskets, I'll wait till next spring to put it in the yard.
