Is this an Elgin Seat? I think it's missing a piece

My wife and I bought her a prewar Elgin a few months ago from Facebook marketplace. I've been restoring up my first bike since then so I haven't done much with hers yet, and now that I'm assembling it I'm noticing that the seat is different from the picture in the listing. Is this still an Elgin seat or did the seller swap it out with a different one? Also is there a piece missing? It looks like there should be a front spring.

The girls seats came in different sizes. That second seat looks to be one of the smaller models. If your wife plans to ride this bike she might be better served with one of the bigger models.
I have a larger longspring Troxel in white if you’re interested.
Thanks for the info! Mind sending me a PM for the white seat? I can't figure out how to send one lol

Hi @bikercosmos

re's a couple of examples of late 1930's Ladies Elgins for you to compare the saddles.

Post 118 (1936) https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/westfield-frame-numbers-1933-1945.100743/page-12#post-1266708

Also 1936: https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/for-sale-1936-elgin-swallow-near-mint-condition.152202/

If you'd like to know the exact date of the bicycle, you will find two sets of letters/numbers on the bottom bracket (that is, on the bottom, under the pedal crank). If you post those here, we can date the bicycle. Or, contact me by PM if you prefer.

Best Regards,

Adrian

Thanks! Seems like I'll need to get a long spring saddle if I want it to match the bike then. I'll find those numbers when I get home today and post them here

Okay, I found the serial number. It's DS31044.

Here's a better picture of the bike too
