Intense One

I live for the CABE
I’m just starting a project(like I need another one) on a bike I recently picked up mainly for a conglomeration of parts of all descriptions. It has a Columbia frame, balloon tires (Schwinn Typhoons) a locking springer fork (unlocked but no key) and I would guess JC Higgins skirt guards with Higgins chain guard, fenders and cheese grater rack. Grips are black sparkle Schwinn.
I’m stripping it all down to clean up, correct a few things and possibly put it back together. Green paint on frame looks original but rough. Not sure about locking springer fork but main fork matches.
Questions: not sure what year the frame is… no I D marks/serial numbers anywhere. I know the head badge can narrow down approximate year when that style was used.
Question 2: not familiar with this type of springer because none of my other bikes have this style but wondering if plates at bottom of fork should have movement to have rebound in fork or are they supposed to be tight and not able to move.
Question 3: any secrets on unlocking the stuck kick stand… I’ve lubricated/rotated/rubber malleted it to no success. The crank/pedals cannot rotate with it stuck in the down position… don’t want to cut it off if possible.
Thanks for any help on solving my mysteries

Shawn I did the search and you're right, plus the fork is bent, the springer rod fork is on backwards, the two pivet brackets are missing. It looks like a confusing one to assemble correctly.

I believe you can pop the dust cap off the kickstand housing and there will be a snap ring holding it all together. Removing the snap ring should allow you to pull the kickstand out of the housing.
It’s Rusty Crusty but I’ll try that…..seems the only way to get into it!

Oh boy…..sounds like a project to me….the whole bike is a confusing mess to me.

I was getting dizzy looking at that fork assembly 😀
Yeah, Ian…..just started removing “stuff” to get down to the nitty gritty. I found this bike just the way it is….story from seller is that it belonged to an old couple who had since past on but bike was sitting in a sometimes flooded basement for years. The old dude must have been a tinkler and put on random parts

Thank you, CABE family members for your input. I’ll be picking away at this MetalMess. Had to drill out rivets holding the skirt guards onto the rear fender to remove from frame. Wheels came off without snapping any nuts and bolts and chain was harder than Ellie May Clampett’s biscuits… not even going to reuse that rusted turd..beyond evaporusting. Seat and post came off ok with little difficulty….haven’t attempted to remove stem or fork assembly yet! 😗
