Finally riding a big boys bike
Looking for info from our Schwinn experts. I got this Klunker 5 a few days ago from a local guy who said his Mom had it in her garage for over 30 years. He wanted to get it running but never found the time and needed to clear space in the garage for the wife's new E bike!
He did not know any history on it. Wondering if this particular bike has been seen by any Cabers before.

Also what is needed to get back to original. Are front brakes Dia Compe? How to best preserve the chain guard graphics? Are the forks worth keeping? Etc.
Thanks
@mrg

Nice Catch!
Do you have a photo of the serial number?
Build Date on Schwinn badge 2918 is October 18, 1978 ... after the announcement is July/Aug.1978
Front Brake would be Dia-Compe 1080.
Wrong Seat.
Needs Shimano cable clamps.
Missing Rear Reflector and bracket.
Someone opted for the more rugged BMX style tube fork, would be nice if it had the original fork.
Should clean-up Nice! ... My favorite "go to" Cleaner ... Meguiar's Cleaner Wax A1216

The seat, front fork, and longhorn handlebars are not OE on this bike.
