On Training Wheels
I am selling a 1999 Trek 5500 US Postal Service Cycling team bike which was used by Lance Armstrong during the 1999 race season. It is NOT a replica! It was acquired by me from the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) in a silent auction at the May 1999 LAF Live to Ride Gala (an LAF fundraising event), but wasn’t delivered to me until the end of the 1999 season. It is all original without any upgrades or changes to the components. It did not include pedals when received. I rode it minimally shortly after acquisition, but it has been stored in a temperature controlled environment since. Lance Armstrong autographed the top tube.

Component details:

Cinelli handlebar and Cinelli Alter stem;
Shimano Dura Ace 52/39 crank;
Shimano Dura Ace 7700 11-21 9 speed cassette;
Shimano Dura Ace RD-7700 rear derailleur;
Shimano Dura Ace 7700 front derailleur;
Shimano Dura Ace seat post;Shimano Dura Ace brakes and shifters;
Selle San Marco US Postal Cycling Team saddle (Lance Armstrong used a different saddle (San Marco Concor Light) when he raced on the bike, but the standard issue team saddle was included with the bike upon acquisition);
Mavic Reflex 6106 700c tubular rims; and
Hutchinson ORO Team Comp tubular tires

Included with the sale are the purchase receipt and the 1999 LAF Live to Ride silent auction catalog, which lists this bicycle as item #4 in the catalog, with the following description: “Lance Armstrong Trek 5500 bike - This sleek Trek 5500 has raced with the best and was ridden by none other than Lance Armstrong himself for the U.S. Postal Service Cycling Team.” Other memorabilia included is an autographed issue of VeloNews dated August 16, 1999 issue covering Lance’s victory at the 1999 Tour de France.

What’s the serial number? Thx
The bike was packed and I unpacked it to look for it for you. I couldn't find one. I looked at the bottom of the bottom bracket, which I understand is where TREK typically stamped the frames, and couldn't find it (see photos). See, by way of example, my 2003 TREK Project One Tour of Hope bike, which I rode across the US with Lance and others to raise awareness for cancer research, and the location of the SN on that bike. Could it be that since it is a racing frame, it didn't have one, or if it did, it was removed by US Postal Team?

A note on the serial number location: on this model, Trek engraved the S\N to the right side drop-out, inner side.
