I still got my 1990 Giant Mt bike ( 760 or 780 I think ) it was $1000 at the time, great bike but Schwinn didn't pay for top of the line quality Cruisers, they just wanted to compete with the Walmart type cruisers.

but early Giants and other Taiwan made bikes like the mid to late 70s Raleighs & SCHWINNS ARE SUPER WELL MADE AND INDESTRUCTABLE.

The problem with a pissing match is that the statements made begin to grow well beyond the reality. The early Giant built Schwinn's were poorly made, fortunately for GIANT, SCHWINN badly needed their low labor cost production ability. SCHWINN relocated Frank Brilando (Schwinn's head engineer) to live in Tiawan and be at the Giant Factory daily to oversee the production and train them on quality manufacturing.

This information comes from a guy that has been both a dealer, and a management employee for both brands.

Agreed, I didn't create this thread, but I believe that was the original intent, as a place for posting Chicago built Cruisers and their previous models...if it's taking a turn for Taiwan bikes, I'll be sure to put on ignore.
There is always someone that can't read and hijacks a thread. The original poster hasn't been active for quite a while, but anyone can report the off topic posts to get them cleaned off the chalk board. Looks like we need a big eraser.
