Originally they springers came with a ribbed washer and a nut on the outside of the leg.
I like the clean th ethreads idea but its a WEIRD thread and will be hard to find the correct tap. If you assemble the fork use some "lock tight" and the washer and nut combo and you should be fine. You would feel it getting loose before "Tragedy" would strike! You dont want it too tight and tube the inside of the parts too.
