Tyberius

Look Ma, No Hands!
So...I think I have my list of needed (or at least hard to find) parts for my c1905 Kenwood down to pedals.

I'm not prepared to spend $250-400 for a useable set of TOC pedals at this juncture.

I've seen some ok looking quill pedals that maybe I could boil in bleach to make them look right-ish but they're always 9/16" instead of the needed 1/2".

Has anyone found something that looks the part without breaking the bank?

Thanks, TMS

I completely understand. I too have a hard time justifying $250-400 for a set of pedals. I know they are not exactly look alike but what about a pair of these pedals. With reflectors removed and maybe a little patina they may pass until you find something better.

I have left and right hand thread dies. I just bought a set of French thread Quills I'm going to take apart, machine the axles and cut new L&R 1/2-20 threads in them. I hate the thought of messing up a good original crank. I've also fixed early cranks that had been drilled and tapped to 9/16-18

I'll post how the pedals turn out and let you know how big a job it was to do.

Extenders convenient with 1/2" male threads and 9/16" female threads, (right and left handed).

Can't wait to see that! - I had thought of doing that as well, the only thing stopping me was a lack of lathe, milling machine, finesse, knowledge, experience, taps, dies...

Maybe I'll get a set, drag them behind my car for a few miles, dip them in acid and bury them in the back yard and see if they look right in the spring.

Some affordable pedals I like, (9/16").

I recall them as English, # 501 if I recall correctly(?), used, cheap, and I can use them with or without reflectors (probably with).

I'll snagged an ok looking pair of the interweb the other day but these look more faithful to at least what's become the most popular TOC pedal. I'll keep an eye out for a pair or if you have a source, please PM me. Happy hunting.

Hmm. I had always understood that wishing I possessed three or four hundred dollars to spend on a pair of antique rat traps was part of the fun of collecting old bikes.
