Riding a Speedboy Special
Just wondering who out there has Spokane Cycle & Toy labeled bicycles along with the bikes badged “Speedboy Special?” The best known Speedboy bike that I am aware of is a 50’s B6 Autocycle. Trying to challenge anyone out there to beat this example found here in Spokane. Fully loaded bike in original condition just missing it’s tank. A good friend of mine owns it. This bike has front and rear drum brakes and unscripted levers with non knurled S2’s. In Bob U’s opinion based on the build of this bike is probably a 1951. The serial number dates it February 9, 1953. Very nice bike I’m just wondering what other examples may be out there. Saddle recovered by Bob U bobcycles.

I've always loved Chris's bike, one of my favorites! I always thought it was an earlier build with the sliding rail, brass badge and non knurled wheels?
I was confused too. Bob U said non knurled S2’s were used in 1948. Then you have the non scripted brake levers and yes the slide rail Mesinger. This bike to me is all over the map when it comes to the parts on it. When Chris found it it was tucked in the back of a garage with vegetation growing all around it. The bike had been there for some time. These two guys were running a garage sale. He just had noticed the bike tucked in the back corner. He bought it for around $200. What a find! I was very surprised based on the parts that the serial number dated it 1953. According to Bob because the serial number is located on the bottom of the crank it can’t be a 1953 because starting in 1952 the serial numbers were recorded on the rear drop out by the rear axle. This is a confusing bike for sure.

H with six digits would be a 1951 serial, but the five digits are often 48 and earlier. I'll do some reading but my gut says it is a 47 or so. I just had a black 47 that was very similar.

I was just going to mention that! I believe that piece is also an early postwar model. H-I-J-K serials were used prewar, wartime and post war. Obviously it's post war but these prefix letters were all used early post war.
