Riding a '37 Colson Imperial
I recently picked up a LWB Colson single bar that was equipped with 28" singletubes. At first I thought maybe they had been swapped in place of the original 26's for some odd reason. When I saw the ND D and Colson hub, I was pretty sure they were factory. The 36 catalog even lists the option for a "high-pressure" wheelset. It didn't dawn on me that there would have to be some frame & fork differences to accommodate the larger wheels until I got it roadworthy using a 26" '37 Colson wheelset. There was definitely more room between the tire and the inside of the fenders than my other Colsons. Scott(Rustjunkie) also noticed this at a local ride and mentioned I should compare frames. Well...he was right. I parked my 36 double bar alongside the 37 single bar and took some measurements. Just looking at them side-by-side the difference is noticeable. Check it out...
