Everything I have from Bendix says the Yellow & Blue band hubs came out in 65. Even the Schwinn service manuals don't show it before 65.

And if you really want to know look at the date code stamp on the brake arm. Looks like E 7... May 67... if its the original brake arm.
Oh that is excellent news, let me check right now.

Yes e7. All these years I never knew they were date stamped, never even paid attention or noticed so thank you. That means the articles and websites that said they were made the first year 1963 are totally wrong.

I was under the impression that the mini twinn was equipped with 36 spoke rims but apparently not.
The mini twinn introduced in 68 was available with the blue band kick back having 28 spoke wheels.
The assembled blue band hubs were offered in both 28 & 36 hole for .080 gauge spokes.
But you could buy four different hub shells.
AB-1) 36 hole .080 gauge
AB-1B) 28 hole .080 gauge
AB-1C) 36 hole .120 gauge
AB-1D) 36 hole .105 gauge

Also, you can swap out three parts and some blue paint to convert a yellow band to overdrive blue band. (I know there are a few of those out there, .. over 60 years anything is possible)

Its also my understanding the blue band was offered on the stingray models with the smaller lucky 7 chainring. But over 60 years wheels/hubs could have been swapped so any combination can be found.

Just wondering, what info have you found stating they were out in 63?

Hope I didn't carp on your thread, GLWS.

No not at all, you really helped me because I never knew about that date stamp on the brake arms. I read a couple of various forums on rat rod bikes and even one on the cabe that stated they were only out for the first two years of the stingray but it's like they got it completely backwards and we're not out either of those years.

I have others, when I'm into something I tend to hoard info and documentation on it.

The Blue Band Overdrive unit was first offered as an extra cost option on the 1965 Stingrays and came with a front caliper brake on the standard fork.
The ‘65 and ‘66 Super Deluxe with the springer fork did not get the front caliper brake when ordered with the Blue Band option.
The 1965 and ‘66 Overdrive brake arm was not dated on the back.
Sometime in 1967 the Overdrive brake arm started to have dates stamped on the back.
Late ‘67 and 1968 the Overdrive brake arm now had MODEL B stamped on the front with the date on the back.

Below is my M4 (Dec. 1964) Super Deluxe that came with the Blue Band Overdrive.
The above hub E7 that is for sale and a 1968 Overdrive with an L7. Both these brake arms have the MODEL B on the front.

1967 brake arm still said Overdrive but sometime in this year the dates were stamped on the back.

That might have been around the same time the internals were updated.
