McCauley Rack/Book Strap Question

I have been told the 9 hole McCauley racks that have the slot on either side was for a book strap. Opinions? If this is true are there any pics of what this strap would look like? Assuming it would have been n add on item that a kid could purchase at their local general store? Thanks for any input.

The huffman 37 didn't have holes... what does headbadge say. It would have been a belt

The bookstrap racks were used on '37/8 Huffman products to include the Super Streamline as well as other models. I've never seen one with a strap but assume it would be a leather strap with a buckle. Here is a rack I just picked up at Ann Arbor. V/r Shawn
