THE PROCESS:
PREP:
CLEAN OFF ANY EXTERIOR RUST USING A WIRE BRUSH, SCRAPER KNIFE, ETC.
THE PROCESS:
1) HEAT UP AROUND CRANK ARM END (SO IT WILL WANT TO EXPAND AWAY FROM THE TREADED PEDAL AXLE) WITH A PROPANE TORCH WHILE DRIBBLING KROIL INTO THE EXPOSED THREADED END. YOU'LL GET SOME SMOKE FROM THE BURNING KROIL BUT IT WILL WICK INTO THE THREADS AS THINGS COOL DOWN AS YOU KEEP FLOODING THE AREA.
2) PUT A TIGHT FITTING WRENCH ON THE PEDAL AXLE FLATS, APPLY PROPANE TORCH HEAT AGAIN AROUND THE CRANK ARM END AND SEE IF IT AXLE WILL BREAK LOOSE WHILE WORKING THE PEDAL AXLE BACK AND FORTH WITH THE WRENCH WHILE DRIBBLING KROIL INTO THE THREAD WHICH LETS IT WICK IT'S WAY INTO THE THREADS OF THE CORRODED AREA. KNOCKING BACK AND FORTH ON THE END OF THE WRENCH WILL ALSO SEND SHOCK WAVES INTO THE BOUND UP AREA OF THE THREADS.
3) REPEATING THIS PROCESS NUMEROUS TIMES MAY BE NEEDED BUT YOU WILL EVENTUALLY GET RESULTS.
NEXT STEP:
GO TO USING A MAPP GAS TORCH WHICH IS A LITTLE HOTTER AND REPEAT ABOVE PROCESSES.
IF ALL ELSE FAILS:
USE A OXY-ACETYLENE TORCH WHICH WILL GIVE MORE THAN ENOUGH HEAT AND REPEAT ABOVE PROCESSES.
ALTERNATE NOTE:
A OXY-ACETYLENE TORCH CAN BE USED FOR ALL ABOVE HEATING PROCESSES AS YOU CAN ADJUST THE FLAME TEMPERATURE.
SAFETY NOTE:
WORK OUTDOORS AND UP WIND (OR USE A PORTABLE FAN BEHIND YOU) OF OF THE PEDAL/CRANK AREA AND DO NOT TO BREATH THE SMOKE CREATED FROM THE BURNING KROIL AS IT WILL GIVE YOU A HEADACHE BIG-TIME.
