Medal (metal) Dilemma

I was thinking about putting this medal on DOND. An attractive 1897 Canadian National medal w/ diamond chips and a pearl.
$300-$400 seemed a reasonable bid until I brought it to a local coin dealer.
Just under 3 1/2 ozs. of 10K gold. Over $1000 in melt weight.
You can do your part from keeping this medal from going the way of the polar bear.

I would say selling gold these days is like throwing money out the window. the value of gold is climbing while the value of a dollar is dropping like a rock.
