On Training Wheels
Hello, I have had this bike for a long time now but don't know much about it? Does anyone know what year it may be? Also what it may be worth? I know the outer hoops on the rims have been changed to aluminum hoops from the person I bought it from so they could ride it as the wooden wheels were rotten.. sorry for the bad pics they were the only ones I could find on my phone

Nice bike.
Looks like an early 1930's Westfield-built ~19" shorter-frame motorbike.
The reduced-size diameter truss tube and 28" wheels (originally) suggest the general timeframe.
We discern the year by the serial number prefix letter on the bottom bracket crank hanger.

The shiny fenders look fairly nice, and the Westfield "Miami" badge is not too common.

Welcome to the CABE!
That is the same head badge . Thanks for the info . It looks like someone may have looked up the numbers before as the paint was scuffed off but I did get a picture

Hi @justkyle

and Welcome.

I agree with @Freqman1 , it's a Westfield produced bicycle, May to June 1934.

The Miami model would have been similar to the Westfield M9, but with small variations to make the Miami a bit more distinct.

Here is the 1934 M9 catalogue page, you can see the chain ring is different for example (the one you have was being used by Westfield on some models at this point so is most likely original to the bike). Other details will be different too, but substantially the same bike.

Please could you do me a favor? Around this date is when Westfield started using a dating code of a letter and one or two numbers to indicate when the frame was made.

Could you look at the area above the serial number and see if there is an A with a single number stamped there? this would be in the same size font as the serial number. I don't think there will be one, but it is useful to have that confirmed either way.

Here is an example showing A10 from a bike made about four months after yours. Photo @LindaC https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/n...my-shapleigh-hardware-special-bicycle.177510/

Also, can you tell me what the letters stamped under the serial number are? I read JKM (inverted).

Thank you for your help.

Best Regards,

Adrian

It's looks like sk? I've taken about 100 pictures and can't make out the letter . It's hanging from the rafters in the Attic so I'm having to take pictures off a ladder. These are the best two that I got
