There are 5/16-26 (modern) and 5/16-24, and even metric 25.4 threads per inch (1mm).
Sometimes one can eyeball the difference between 24 and 26, but a 10-24 screw can be used for comparison if a gage is not handy.

its weird i used a 5/15-24 bolt the one i need fit good but slight loose, and the new new fit right ,,,but when i tried to use the new nut on the axel it would not work...also noticed the old nut was slightly smaller than a 5/8 open end wrench
