Salt Flat Cycles

Finally riding a big boys bike
I’ve been trying to not buy bikes lately because I’m in the process of building a shop and storage is a little tight. However, I was going through an antique shop that was closing and I couldn’t help myself. Not sure what I’m going to do with it, but it’s cool. From what I’ve seen on here it’s possibly a 1935ish Shelby built bike. Looks like original color might have been blue and white/cream, but I don’t know that there’s a lot of og paint still left. It’s a little rough but still solid, I think it would actually ride if there was air in the tubes. Serial number looks like M259443. Rear hub is a new departure model d. Any additional info would be awesome.

Yes, a 1935 example of the big tank motobike. Not rare or worth much, but looks pretty solid as you found it. New tubes & tires wouild turn it into a townie grocery getter or neighborhood wheel. Truss rod nuts are missing, truss brace is added, fork itself may be replaced. Handlebars rep;aced, fenders not sure, wheels look original

thanks for the info. I think the fork and truss brace might be correct. This peerless has very similar ones https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/1930s-motobike-id-request-peerless-badged-shelby-made.130140/

So this is very interesting. I do love Shelbys' and am always learning. I questioned whether those forks and truss assembly were original.. Need to defer to @hoofhearted "~Patric to expound regarding this round top fork and open-ended truss support bracket being a 1935 reality or not...Patric? Salt Flat-Please post your bike on the Shelby serial number thread. Wonder what it would look like without the red paint? Pete

Mid 1930’s Shelby bikes wore many various head badges, like the Western Flyer below.
It seems that you have already done good DIY research and found other examples; and that the Peerless badge was worn on bikes by several manufacturers.

@SKPC I posted it over on the serial thread. I’ll eventually try to get the red paint off, but you never know how that will go. It’s hard to tell, but doesn’t look like a ton of original paint under it.
