Monark Super Deluxe - help needed please

Hello,
I just picked this up locally, and have no experience with this bike. I am seeking help on the stem/forks/springs area.
Am I missing something here? Was this where the Shroud would go? Also if the top of the springs are missing the cupped bushings or not this model. I am very confused. I tried to read the serial number on the plate but it was painted-over. I know it's a bad "refurbishing" job, but I would still cruise it around the hood once I get the fork thing sorted. Any help is much appreciated!

Hi, You have potential there. I'm no expert. I'd say the fork is from a ladies Monark/Firestone as I believe they are longer ( could probably be cut down). Then the springs are too long...hhmnnnn???? perhaps also from a ladies frame? It's obviously a Firestone badged bike, but they were made by Monark/thus the parts are mostly interchangeable. The expert on these is Chris "oldfart36". It looks like incorrect axle nuts on the springer top. As a guess, a chicks fork and springer parts in a dudes frame/headset. A hermaphrodite if you will (part chick/part dude). There is hope, just may be a need for new springer parts. Here are a few of my Firestone. Hope that helps? Bob

Ha!! Yeah, it wasn't easy to pry this from a Caber ( was your's H/H originally/I knew that...thanks!), but it's in good hands. I used to have a decent resto I let slip away about 25 years ago. That was sold to a buddy then, who just sold to another buddy last year.

This original ( even the tires) stays with me. I added a rocket and a upgrade on the cheese grater carrier grill, otherwise, it's all as it was when you owned it. Here is the resto I used to have. I hope these pics are adding to the thread, not hi-jacking it. That's not my plan.

Take the bikes weight off the front wheel.............and push down on those cap nuts on top of the springs...................then the brace should slide down into position ( unless for some reason the axel nuts prevent it ) ............then tighten up the race and crown nut so the fork swivels as it should . You have a big gap over the fender ( lot's of room to go downwards ).............I think it should work out ok ;)

Yea, from what I can see in the pictures Curtis is right. Take the weight off the front end, the spring crown brace should slide down on the threaded fork tube. Then you can tighten the fork nut down to keep it in place. From the pics it looks like you may be missing the cogged washer that should go between the fork nut and spring brace. Also looks like you are missing the spring caps, and the rubber washers at the top of the springs should be above the spring brace not under it. Cool bike, you should be good to go with just a little work!

Wow, you have lots to do here! Looks to me like who ever built this one didn't really have a clue. "FrontEnd"-- for starters, it looks like a girls front end the length is wrong. As far as the parts, while Monark, they are wrong. Top nuts are axle bolts (need correct nuts, bushings and washers), might be missing spring cups at top of springs, depends on true year/model of bike.
If headbadge is original to bike graphics are wrong, the Super Deluxe had a head tube shroud, while the Super Cruiser didn't. Seat and pedals are wrong. Of course the elusive pedestal light is missing (once again depending on year). There are other things to address, but you have a fun project there.
You might consider starting over with the bike as a whole, the home grown paint, well, is home grown.

Hope this helps, make the bike a fun project!
