curious as to pedals; please let me know if you are able to read marking on endcaps
Here you go...

Jesper

Wore out three sets of tires already!
Surprised to see Union pedals over Lyotards so I had to check. I looked at a '77 catalog and Motobecane was using everything from Lyotard (France), Union (Germany), KKT (Japan), Campy (Italy), and Olimpic Spain) pedals on their bikes. With the exception of Campy for their top end bike(s) (Team Champion with reflectors spec'd on pedals!), it seems like Motobecane could not contract with a reasonable supplier unless demand was such that they had to source pedals from various companies/countries during that era.

thank you @HARPO

was puzzled by this model of pedal

reflectors make it quite a bit earlier than cycle

model absent from both VB and from Speedplay museo

went to ebay.de to see if could locate a match

no such luck

what is the pedal thread marking on axle flats?

for stated time do not think MB would have changed over yet to BSC

pedal thread marking may also be present on backside of Sakae Ringyo crank arms

someone in Tedescoterra seems to give high value to rusty old peds from U. Frondenberg

this ferrous oxide lump priced at 145 Euro by would-be seller 🤯

...with an additional forty-five Euro for drayature 😱

@juvela Thank you for all the updating and info. Apparently the guy I got it from loved changing parts in and out on this (which is why I only payed $35 for it). It was hanging in his garage for decades he said.

And now I found out the seat post is suck as I was getting thatvmuch closer to getting done with it. No more working on it! I'll get rid of it cheap (hopefully) and look for another Toy to work on! 🤪 I was going to flip it anyway just to keep busy.

Well, with a struck seat post, I'm stopping work on it and this is as far as I'll go. I purchased it cheap, and I'll pass it along cheap to someone who fits it properly. I have no desire to work on the post past what I've already done with it. 😕

So, here it is. A long way from the mess I first purchased, and it will live another life, which was my intent. Frame is to small for me anyway.

in reviewing the photos the pedals are the most striking "before & after" for me -

"before"

"after"

also in reviewing the pictures it dawned on me molasses-slow "braine" that crank arms are a mismatch

according to catalogue pages right arm appears to be OEM

left arm looks more like a T. A. (!)

someone certainly performed a good deal of "mix & not match" with this machine!

Monsieur Le Klaxonier certainly performed a great deal of lavandation for a scant xxxv simoliani 🧑‍🔧

@juvela Never should have purchased it! Live and learn. All in a days (plural!) fun though!

Guy who has it is stripping down the entire bike (I didn't) to redo entrirely with some correct parts. He showed me his bikes, and Wow, he goes the extra mile for detailing them. It went to a good home to finish it off properly. 😃
