Apologies in advance. I've scoured 49 pages of posts and pics to find my answer. Just picked up this bike from a yard sale. Just trying to find year and model. #s are on the left drop out and only # i couldn't get a pic of if 62••••( it was under the axle nut). It's obviously missing parts/pieces and painted terribly. Seems to me that it's too far gone to "restore" but I'm going to have it repainted and find what I can to make it complete as possible.

With no way of telling exactly what the bike is there was some confusion on my end about whether MOT was 61(Murray) or MOT was 54(WF). I've seen both charts. Also the numbers being on the drop out vs the BB was throwing me for a loop. I was hoping to get some information based on the 6 digit number 627652. Thanks for response

The number on the end 627652 is just the serial number. Nothing there for any type of identification.

Darn. Hopefully someone can help narrow it down. Closest model I've found was the meteor flight. Fenders have corresponding holes for light and rear rack. Just unclear on how tank would mount.

There are no tabs on the frame for mounting a tank. Tankless model.

I’ve been digging a lot and I’m unsure of how to interpret the serial number on my daughter’s bike.

Any help with where and when it was manufactured?

I would guess this bike was made in 1997 right before Murray moved all bike manufacturing to Mississippi in 1998.

In June 1988, the Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company was acquired by the British investment group Tomkins plc. In 1996, Murray Inc., one of the last major U.S. bicycle producers along with Huffy Bicycle and Roadmaster (formerly AMF), received a major blow when U.S. courts ruled that imports from China were not a "material threat" to U.S. companies.[7] Within three years, Huffy, Roadmaster and Murray ceased manufacture of bicycles in the United States.

In 1998, Murray moved bicycle production from Lawrenceburg to a non-union factory in Mississippi. Production of all U.S.-made bicycles halted in 1999. In 2000, the Murray brand was acquired by Pacific Cycle, a U.S. distributor of bicycles produced in Taiwan and the People's Republic of China. Murray has since been used as a brand for imported Chinese bicycles sold by Pacific Cycle. Pacific Cycle was later acquired by Dorel Industries, and then Pon Holdings.

Hello,

When we have time, we can go back and get into our records on Murray-Ohio to look for your bicycle details. However, from what we see here, it appears you have a 1986 model that was made in Lawrenceburg, TN.

Please be aware that MUCH "information" about this company posted online is either mistaken or downright false.
