Being a antique dealer winter is my down time no estate sales.. So I was looking at my pope seat.. it was hashed out and need to be restored. Well being board I started to try to make a seat. At least it was a time burner if nothing else. since I have a large amount of antique leather I’ve been hoarding for a while. I started to work. Most of the original seat was there but dried and missing parts so I free handed the design. Once I cut it out I started on mounting it to the frame.. there wasn’t any sewing so it wasn’t to bad. After I got it on i reshaped the leather and free handed the design not to the original but age appropriate..... I know it’s not perfect but it’s done by hand no serious tools just a screwdriver, pencil , fingernail ,rivets and scissors. Low budget tools and plenty of time.. it took 8 hours and made the day go fast... . Next I wrote the original script on to the leather and tooled it out with my “tools”.. i embellished the edging via my fingernail and screwdriver. Last I oiled it with light leather oil... The old leather darkened out nicely. So here is my seat. I think I’ll invest in a free tools but keep it simple for the next one.....lol.
View attachment 724895 Thank you. I’m not quitting my day job but I might do a few to sell in the future.. this is what it looks like dried and ready for use.
Wow thank you ...I appreciate that... my wife said it looked great but being the creator you always see the flaws not the results. I will do some to sell down the line. I did enjoy it. Here it is on my pope with the seat.
