My great great great uncle, but what's the bike?

    This is my great great great uncle Ruben Humphery. Would love to know what the bike is. He was born 1875 so this is likely late 1890s

    Your uncle's bicycle has similar characteristics to these bikes.
    1890s
    There were several variations.

    Thanks for all the replies. Note with the Horseley No. 1, which I agree is the closest match so far, the bike in my photograph doesn't have a main tube extending straight from the headset to the rear axle, and it has a seat stay / rear triangle. I did suspect though at that time they were experimenting and constantly improving models..

    This is correct in some regards, but also completely wrong in others! (seat post, headset, lack of down tube etc)
