Wore out three sets of tires already!
If any New Departure experts can help I would like to know what year hub this is. I know it is prewar and it is stamped Model D. It is very different! Externally it has the different script on the arm and the end cap is recessed instead of over lapping the hub. Internally it has fewer big thick brake pads. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you, BW:eek:

New Departure Mystery to me hub!

Not according to the hub Joel! Please see new pic. I am guessing it is an early D. Anyone that can help please chime in! Thank you, BW

It's a C 's guts with a D shell. I compared a '30s D shell with a C shell, and they are identical. I have a C hub and brake arm with a D's guts on one of my bikes and you'd never know that it wasn't all original unless you were a ND geek.

Mystery ND hub - To Me!

Thank you you guys! I get it now. I swear it did have weird thick copper pads inside though....I wonder what those are? Maybe home brew! BW:eek:

I've seen those heavy duty pads offered on ebay NOS with box so they were factory made.

I think the thick discs/pads are model C.
I have had 2 similar hubs with C guts and C arms but D shells.
Otherwise I think they are similar.

I think the model D improvement was mainly
a change to thinner discs to allow more discs and more friction.

Can anyone post a photo of a C shell or a cutaway schematic?

I have some model A's but was there ever a model B?
