Need Help w/ CWC Roadmaster Rear Rack Battery Tube/Light

-

jlively970

Finally riding a big boys bike
I am struggling to get this battery tube apart to see what I have left on the inside and the possibility of getting it working again! I sure it's rusted together, but I'm not entirely sure which end to open either (I have tried soaking the end caps with penetrating oil). Seems the switch is intact and slides both directions. Also, what size bulb and batteries does this require?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Cheers,

Josh

Thank you @JAF/CO, just a little tap tap tap did the trick!! Ok so now it’s apart, is there supposed to be anything else besides batteries on the inside?? My bulb was roached, do you happen to know what bulb type or size it takes??

My restored original. These are pretty hard to come by and are usually missing from the bike.

Good thing yours was still hanging in there.

John made some real nice reproduction D cell canisters for this application. I picked up a few for back up but there probably all sold out now.

So the pictures I took earlier in this thread were from my 38 RMS. Well I go to put the switch cap back on and I noticed there was a battery still it it. I've only had this bike for a couple of months and hadn't looked in there before. I decided it probably wasn't a good idea to leave it in there.. A fantastic original battery that had a date of Feb 1940.
