I have been all over the CABE and this one has me stumped. The serial # is
MOU 10••••0348
The bike has been painted and the wheels are older then a 60s bike.
Non-discussion thread for information and links for serial number and date code information for bicycles and parts. If you like a post please give a "thumbs up". Send suggestions, questions, comments, or corrections to OP (original poster) or a moderator. Would be great if anyone would like to...
The other MOU (post-war restart?) may have been for 1962.
The 1962 Murray catalog shows a model U-10 Boys 26" Missile standard series, versus the equipped series; (i.e., no carrier, headlight, or tank; and painted rims instead of chromium plate). Some of the Murray catalog pictures are challenging to discern the frame style; e.g., how many top tubes are shown, (is that just 1, or 2 that blend together?). The Missile shown in pictures above has 1 top tube; called the Hydrogen Brazed Boys Three Bar cantilever frame.
These were Speed Weight (middleweight) bikes; the painted fenders were likely removed to accommodate wider balloon tires.
Some Murray bikes came with foreign-manufacture Komet Super coaster brake hubs.
Are those middleweight rims? I have seen painted middleweight rims on low end 1960's bikes. What is the coaster hub? The frame, guard and dropouts look early/mid 1960's to me.

We don't know for sure when they introduced a single top bar on these "Flightliner" style frames. The design debuted in 1958, and that twin tube version was around for about a decade. In the late '70s, the single bar versions returned as the Monterey ballooner, continuing through the '80s, until production moved overseas.
