Santa Barbara is only 2+1/2 hours from Union Station on the Amtrak Coast-Starlight schedule; departure 10:10am, and arrival 12:40pm. About 10 minutes faster on the Pacific-Surfliner.
I believe that now they allow for bicycles to be loaded within the checked baggage car.

We took a weekend trip to San Diego a couple months ago on Amtrak & had a blast.

Evans has probably the least information extant from the balloon era, as they were only in business from 1955-62. I'd guess the OP's bike is about a '55, as it still has mostly Colson features.
