I received some transfer springs and finally had the time to disassemble and repair. I measured the stack and it was .73" so close enough. Put the new spring on and voila, works like a charm. So from what little I know, the transfer spring has nothing to do with the brakes (at least on my bike). I rode my bike around for the last two weeks with no transfer spring and the brakes worked fine. Instant and smooth braking. After braking or coasting there was no engagement of drive until 3/4 of a crank rotation (like free wheeling in forward). After the install of the spring the brakes were the same and the drive was back to normal. So the transfer spring must transfer forward pedaling to the cog, or something like that. Thanks for all the advice.
