On Training Wheels
I am new here and don't collect bikes - my main area of interest are antique hit and miss engines, pre-1930 tractors, and Model T Ford's. However, antique/vintage bikes are super cool as their styling, engineering and historical value are NOT lost on me. So here is the story - I live in a rural area and on my way home Monday from work I spotted a 'Free Bikes' sign in the yard of an elderly couple that used to farm. I saw this bike and a Schwinn Stingray and knew I had to grab them! The Schwinn is beat to death, I can post that later in the Schwinn forum, but for now can anyone tell me what I have. I am assuming, only from a google search, that this is a 1966 Huffy Eldorado. Other than that can you give me some more information. Also, what should I do with it? Is this a candidate for a complete restore (like is it valuable enough for that investment) OR clean it up, get it working, and leave it original OR ???? Finally, what about that banana seat? Is that original or aftermarket? Thanks in advance for the help.

PS - My 14 year old daughter said she would take it......

clean it up and enjoy it, the seat is not original.

So this bike gets better and better! Both tires held 40 psi - no dry rot! Then I took the headlight apart and its SO CLEAN inside - did not expect that! And yes after putting in batteries both bulbs lit up!!!!

My "rocker" daughter LOVED riding it. So I will take it to our local mom and pop bike shop (who actually restores old bikes) and have him give it a once over and then it will be ready to be enjoyed again!

Love the old Charlie Brown sticker, reminds me of the YUCK stickers from early 1980's.

Clean it and let daughter have fun.It is old but not a highly collectable bike. Let daughter enjoy.I would invest in a set of tires and tubes or she may be walking it home.

Thanks for the help and advice. I took it to South Shore Cyclery in Cudahy, WI. Got to look through the anitque bicycle muesum while there too. Saw a bike from 1867 and a couple of penny farthing's:) Realized though that every bike I was atrracted to came out of the 1930's so I guess I have a new item to collect, maybe just one, but don't tell my wife! Anyway, new tubes, tires and a tune up and then its my daughters!!! Thanks again all!
