Trying to do a deep cleaning and rebuilding of the chrome on some springers. I don't for the life of me know how the nut gets installed on these however. It appears to be inside the spring itself? But the gaps in the springs don't seem to be wide enough to get the nut in there or out. Is there a special tool needed or other method used to get the nut in there? Any help or videos or steps explained appreciated.

I am not 100% on this, but I believe you have to flex the spring to open
the coils enough to remove the nut. Two large screwdrivers might do it.
The second generation eliminated the internal nut.

I do it exactly the same as 100bikes says above. Clean the threads well while apart to ease the work of putting it back together. Can take some time but works.
