OA Bath or WD and Wool

-

Brian

Finally riding a big boys bike
I’d like to get some opinions on cleaning this bike up. Should I do an OA bath or do you all think WD and 0000 steel wool? The green on top of rear rack is very thin from being weathered. Don’t want to rub too much on that. Your thoughts are appreciated! Thanks!

Take alook at some previous threads where bikes have been brought back to life with an OA bath. 0000 steel wool on chrome is fine but it will scuff paint. Others have used boiled linseed oil to rejuvenate paint. Search the archives for other similar threads.

I don't see much rust on that paint so think OA is way to much, 0000 and oil on the worst spots but mostly rubbing compound then buff & wax. with good lubrication 0000 wool will take off oxidation & lite rust and not harm paint if you don't go "Egor" on it. the last one I did with 0000 & linseed oil came out great but stunk for a couple of days. Some of the chrome may need a little more work tho!
