If you are a fan of space age design and futuristic creations such as the Lincoln Futura ( batmobile) Gyron, GM's Firebirds, Concept cars, Ed Big Daddy Roth creations you have to love the Bowden Spacelander. It is out of this world. But not everyone is interested in what was (and still is) progressive and "art deco" or not their taste. We all have preferences and what we consider cool. Agree to disagree. Variety is the spice of life.

Early Designers like Virgil Exner (Chrysler), Raymond Loewy/ "Ambassador of the streamline" (Nash, Studebaker, Coke products, Greyhounds, appliances,) "Raymond Loewy: the man who designed everything" https://www.theverge.com/2013/11/5/5068132/raymond-loewy-the-man-who-designed-everything

Also a good read is our very own Bicycle expert Leon Dixons "Creative Industries of Detroit: The Untold Story of Detroit's Secret Concept Car Builder Paperback – February 15, 2017" "https://www.hemmings.com/stories/20...ecret-mysteres-and-little-cars-lost-and-found

We are lucky to be able to enjoy what we like, and have people like Craig at Bicycle Heaven who preserve history for those who are interested and appreciate futuristic things that like it or not, have HUGE historical significance. I have been fortunate to get a unique example of the Bowden and am in awe at it's beauty.

I am a fan of all of that mentioned, except the Bowden. Just because I love all the other stuff certainly does not make me "Have to love it" I see nothing "streamlined" about it, more like a big blob with a hole through the middle. It doesn't seem art deco to me, but more "futuristic" at least in the headlight!! To each his own. I hope that everyone that wants one is able to get one. I read they made 522, which should be enough for everyone who loves them to have 87 of them in their collection. Just my two cents, have a great day everyone, and get out and ride your bikes! And if you have a Spacelander, back over it in the driveway with your truck on accident!

Guys over 60 "get it" for the most part because we lived through this interesting time. The Jetsons TV show, The Outer limits, Lost in Space, Gerry Anderson's Super Car, My favourite Martian, Chiller Thriller, the early Star Trek, The cold war, Sci Fi with attitude, special effects done with budgets in the hundred dollar rang!!! and Billy Blastoff!! Imagination ruled!!
