Pennsylvania Athletic Products Tires

I didn't want to hi-jack @Freqman1 's thread regarding the tires on his motorbike, so I'll start a different post on the unique tires on his bike. I have a Pennsylvania Athletic Products (bicycle tire division) Motor Bike tire mounted on a heavy spoked S-2 rim that came with one of the Whizzer's I've owned. The company is better known for it's Penn tennis balls. Founded in the 1890's as the Pennsylvania Rubber Company and purchased by Gates Rubber & Tire in 1945.

I have a set of those (white walls) on my 36 Deluxe Autocycle. When i got the bike i had never heard of the company but Jerry Germeau (the tire guru) clued me in..

Did Gates continue to make that tire after 1945?

@BrianInPA rides around pretty close to Jeanette, PA sometimes. The Penn branded tennis balls make more sense now. Thanks for mentioning that @Tim the Skid

Doesn’t Gates make industrial drive belts, including the Aramid Fiber belt that is used on Harley Davidson motorcycles?

That’s a nice tire, with an interesting story to tell.
