Persons Tool Bag info needed

Persons tool bags were provided to the U.S. Army during WWII for use on bicycles. http://thecabe.com/vbulletin/showth...y-Columbia/page2&highlight=persons+tool+pouch has good photos of the crafting of a reproduction bag.

The Army bicycle manual "TM 10-1481, U.S. Army Columbia Military Bicycles, Parts List and Service Manual" of March 1942 refers simply to a "Persons Tool Bag, Complete, Tan".

I'm wondering if the Army's Persons tool bag was a repurposed off-the-shelf civilian bag.

Existing vintage Army Persons bags have olive drab hardware and metal end caps. If Persons made similar civilian bags, what color was the hardware and metal end caps?

Any information would be appreciated.

The one I have has black hardware and ends.

The tool bags were all made from the same tooling. The military ones had the end caps painted green. Some of the ones offered to the public had jewels or studs on them to dress them up. But they also had plain ones.

To narrow that down a little bit, would the black finish on the end caps be glossy, semi-gloss, or matte?
