Picked up my first prewar bikes

-

56 Vette

Wore out three sets of tires already!
Scrolling through craigslist the other day and came across a few barn find bikes for sale, called the guy up and he said I tear down barns and found a few, and have another I bought off of original owner. The original owner bike is 36 Cadillac badged Shelby, looks like it was red but spray bombed black in the early 80's, the barn finds were what I think is a 39 roadmaster Schwinn from Columbus cycle and sporting goods, pretty complete and probably the best shape of the 3. The 3rd is a mead ranger, maybe early 20's missing light, saddle, post and chain, also looks like it has an Elgin chainring on it, but pretty complete with 28" tires, it's pretty tall! Will look at them closer over the weekend, but feel pretty fortunate to have found them. Here are some pics, any opinions as to if I'm in the ballpark on years would be appreciated, lots of time looking things up, thanks Joe.

The Schwinn DX is a '39-only year for the dropstand 'ears'. Probably has a "B" serial number. V/r Shawn

Nice score. I agree with the above sentiment... once you go prewar it's hard to go back. I still get excited finding a bike from the 50's, but not quite as excited as a late 30's early 40's prewar ballooner with a tank.

Thanks for the comments! A few months ago, I had no idea this hobby would take off like it did. From some 70's cruisers to some neat 50's bikes, now going prewar, wow its cool, absolutely love the drop stand! Got a pretty busy weekend with work and all the Easter things going on, so I won't even have much of a chance to mess with them, but they are cool to look at. Pretty cool seeing the evolution of bikes sitting in the garage, thanks again, hope you all have a great Easter weekend! Joe. A few more pics.

I love multiple bike hauls. Especially prewar bikes. And rare to get more than one. Tearing down barns...that's got to be a killer job. That's where all the undiscovered bikes are.
Nice finds.

It's all about the Tanklights!!

How did I run out of room so fast?
