Please help me identify this teens/20s bicycle #1

Howdy folks-

I've been combing through old threads and I am no closer to identifying this bike than I was when I started. Just when I think a trumpet flute says one thing, a straight fender brace contradicts it. Anyhow, I used #1 in the title as I have half a dozen or so more bicycles to post throughout the week. As always, any and all help is sincerely appreciated.

What does the underside of the bottom bracket look like? - any semi-circular cut-outs like this?:

Can i ask whats the reason for the semi circular cutouts for on the bottom bracket as Brian mentioned ?
