Finally riding a big boys bike
I have never cleaned this or even put a wrench to this bike. My guess is maybe A $100 or so bike, but maybe I am missing something. Rides and stops well, nice looking seat says Ideal on it maybe original. Wheels are real nice but stamped made in Japan, tires look like new and not original. Suntour rear derailleur but maybe not original. I would really appreciate any help in telling me what I have, maybe about what year this might be, what is original and what is not and an estimate of price I should ask. Any idea of the year and model, perhaps a U08 Peugeot. Nice clean bike, I have some wingnuts that I was told came on this bike, not sure of that also. Any type of info is welcome and I am sure would also be appreciated by any prospective purchaser. I will a post a lot of photos of this bike. Thanks for looking

U08/"Trophée de France", early to mid 60s I think. Maybe the first style UO8 type model. The V GT Luxe RD is 2nd-3rd gen. and if original would have dated the bike from late 70s to mid 80s, but that unit is too new and original was Huret or Simplex. If the shifters and front derailleur (it looks Huret?) are Huret or Simplex then I would expect the original RD to be a Huret ("Allvit" model?) or Simplex model also. I am not sure when the T&B 80 saddle was introduced so it might not be original (its patina and wear indicate it has been on the bike for awhile though). The AVA stem and steel bar are most likely original..

70s models were/are a dime a dozen. I have had them given to me for nothing and bought a complete one for $40; they are a good source of French specific parts. With that frame being the early model I would maybe value it between $75-$125 depending on condition and function. Replacement parts lower the collectors value, but increase the overall performance value (Sun Tour RD). I think $150-$200 at best if all original parts and in excellent aesthetic and functional condition.

The Suntour V GT derailleurs were/are held in high regards due to performance and durability; and they sell for $40 plus online so if you want to restore the bike you might be able to sell off some of the replacement parts to cover some costs.

Now that is what I call a great response to my post. I can not thank you enough. Explained to me what I had, approximate value. I have a Cyrus Great Western bike I posted wanting similar help on today also, hope someone knows half as much about that bike as you did this one. Again thanks so much.

You are welcome. I think it is '64 at the latest due to head badge.
I would do a quick search on ebay (World search) and see if there are any up for sale. I do not follow that era (60s) of French bikes so pricing may or may not be in your favor. Also, consider that ebay prices are higher (10%-25%) due to fees affecting sellers so a $200 ebay bike is more like a $125-$150 craiglist bike. I can positively say this, if the bike was for sale to me locally at $75 I would be interested enough to look at in person, but if it was at $125 I would just pass on it. Older French bikes are a pain to get parts for at reasonable prices and unless the bike was rare (it is not), very low cost ($25 or less), was a high end tubeset, or in near perfect condition; it would be difficult to repair for less than the overall value of the bike, and/or it is more difficult to sell in general unless someone has spare parts already or is specifically looking for that model Peugeot bike of that era in that size (approx. 53-54cm?).

Edit: as little as I know about French bikes, I know even less (I know nothing!) regarding "Cyrus Great Western" bikes.

Thanks for all the help, I posted this in the for sale section on this site, $150. I will see what if any response I get. As far as the Cyrus bike, I asked for help, not much of a response, no estimates given for the value. Probably a $500 or less bike, I will post it for sale for a thousand dollars and then I will probably get everyone coming out of the woodwork saying what is worth telling me I am crazy and it is not worth that much. Sometimes people are quick and do not hesitate to tell you that you are asking to much for a bike, but say nothing when asked for help in pricing a bike before listing it for sale. No worries. Thanks again for the help on the Peugeot.

The Italian Silca Impero pump might be worth the price of the bike. The Pasela tires are very good tires. The SunTour rear deraileur is functionally a major upgrade over anything that was originally on there. The leather Ideale saddle is amazing to find still on the bike. The bike is not original, but the changes were improvements. The market around my area is as dead as a door nail. Overpriced, but even the dirt cheap stuff now sits on CL and FBM for eternity. This one is unique because of it's age, the Silca pump, and upgrades.
