'Fotos like this are so precious and valuable, but not in a monetary way.

Circa 1946-1952, this 'foto was taken in the midst of Jim Crow-era segregationist America. It is an ugly part of history, but it was very real. These kids clearly did not care about racial division among the adults. Love and friendship, I believe, are natural at birth. People judging each other's skin color? That hatred is taught!

I am at left, pal's name is "Chip". I recently learned he is still living not far from the scene, Rankin, Pa., site of US Steel's Carrie Furnace and what was a pretty integrated little steel town near Pittsburgh.
